Booktrust has created and administered a range of projects and campaigns designed to help people of all ages and backgrounds to access books and give them opportunities to enjoy and be confident in their reading and writing: from the Children's Laureate, awarded every two years to highlight the importance of exceptional children's authors in creating the readers of tomorrow, to Bookbite, designed to inspire people over 60 to engage with reading and writing, which gave out over 100,000 copies of its magazine.

Bedtime Reading

Sharing books with your baby or child and reading aloud with them at bedtime is a fun, warm and loving experience.

The Big Picture

The Big Picture Campaign was launched in 2007 as a new initiative aimed at promoting picture books and illustrators.

Bookbite

Bookbite encourages people over 60 to discover new authors and genres, to try a range of creative writing activities and to interact with others online to share stories and book reviews.

Children's Book Week

Children’s Book Week is an annual celebration of reading for pleasure for children of primary school age that has been running for the past 80 years.

Children's Laureate

The role of Children’s Laureate is awarded once every two years to an eminent writer or illustrator of children’s books to celebrate outstanding achievement in their field.

Everybody Writes

Everybody Writes was a four year project to provide teachers with ideas and resources to help them run inspiring writing projects. Although Everybody Writes has now come to an end you can still find a wealth of useful resources and information to help plan exciting writing projects and activities.

Get London Reading

Get London Reading was a biennial campaign run by Booktrust, in association with the Mayor of London, to encourage Londoners to make more time for reading, and to celebrate London as an international centre for books. Its legacy is an interactive online map of London with books associated with London locations.

Poetry and Young People

Poetry and Young People is an initiative that aims to engage more young people in poetry reading, writing and performance and attract new audiences to the art form.

The Short Story

We promote the short story through advocacy, reader and writer development including competition and magazine listings, writing tips, reviews of short story collections and forthcoming titles, news and events and our involvement with prizes such as The BBC National Short Story Award (previously the National Short Story Prize) and The Sunday Times EFG Private Bank Short Story Award.

Translated Fiction

Booktrust is committed to supporting translated fiction. We want readers to discover the best novels from around the world that are available in English translations across a broad range of genres and a wide range of countries and languages.
