How does Booked Up work?

Booked Up 2008

How does Booked Up work?

Every secondary school has been invited to take part in Booked Up, with information sent to all secondary schools in England at the beginning of June. The invitation will also be sent through the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) Email Alert which will be sent to the school's registered email address and their head teachers.

The Booked Up coordinator registers the school and, in September 2008, receives:

  • a Booked Up magazine for each Year 7 pupil
  • a DVD with interviews from the Booked Up authors and recommendations from other Year 7 pupils
  • information about the programme and how to help the students choose their book
  • resources for coordinators with ideas on how to get the best out of Booked Up
  • posters to promote the programme
  • a free set of the books featured on the list (if the school registers by the end of the summer term).

The Booked Up coordinator will then collate the Year 7s' choices and place the order, either on the website, by post, or over the phone. The pupils' free books will be delivered in clearly marked purple boxes.

All orders should be placed by Friday 24 October 2008 and all books should be received by the end of the autumn term.

Booked Up is a Booktrust book gifting programme.
