How Booked Up is working in Schools

Booked Up 2008

How Booked Up is working in Schools

Last year Booked Up was officially launched by Michael Rosen, the new Children’s Laureate and was a huge success. Over 637,000 children received a free Booked Up book; more than 2,000 public and school libraries too part in the programme.

Every secondary school in England has been contacted directly inviting them to take part. In order to take part, schools must register with Booked Up.

In early September 2008, all registered schools will receive:

  • a Booked Up magazine for each Year 7 pupil
  • information for Booked Up coordinators in schools
  • posters to promote the opportunity
  • a free set of the books (if the school registered by 31 July 2008)
  • a DVD for each registered school

The DVD and magazine includes advice about choosing a book and peer endorsement for each title. The school’s Booked Up coordinator collates the children’s choices and places the order through the Booked Up website. Orders should be placed by Friday 24 October 2008.

The Booked Up coordinator will then receive their pupils’ free books and a bookmark and bag for each child.

All pupils will have received their books by December 2008.

Booked Up is a Booktrust book gifting programme.
